The first simple shapes are added to the frame.  Look at your subject loosely and ask your self what shapes do you see.  Apply these shapes to the frame in the manner that they appear on your subject.  Sketch the shapes so that they show dimension and depth of the figure.  Do not try to show detail at this time.  Keep your thoughts loose.
