I was born Isabella Baumfree.  I was a hard-working slave and boasted that I could work as hard as any man and I could too.  When my master defaulted on a promise to me I left my plantation while he watched never to return.  He chased me down but I refused to return.  I took this man to court and sued him even though I could not read or write.  I am the first slave to sue her master and win that case.  I am a determined woman.

I reinvented myself and changed my name and began to travel around the country speaking out against the evils of slavery.  I have held the audience of senators and congressmen and even the president of the United States of America.  Who am I and what did I change my name to?
